William Garland
COO and Founder

Mr. Garland, a US Army veteran from Detroit now residing in South Florida. He is the product of a multigenerational military service family and has witnessed the harmful effects of combat, including the complex trauma it causes both to our Veterans, and the people who love them. He has seen how veterans struggle to use plant based medicine for peace and healing, prompting his interest in alternative treatments. Through personal exploration, Mr. Garland discovered the benefits of utilizing the mind-body-spirit approach to healing, and aims to educate fellow veterans and their families on the therapeutic use of all of the many modalities he has worked with.

What do we do?

Our clinicians guide patients through plant medicine-assisted psychotherapy to either enhance or broaden the scope of traditional talk therapy. As professionals, we address a variety of mental health issues, specifically intergenerational trauma. We help our patients acquire new and different coping skills to help them thrive using a combination of modalities. Through our work, we empower our patients to explore the plant-based modalities available to them.

At Floriquest, we utilize peer mentors for additional support outside of your clinical sessions.

We also connect you with group support to help provide you with a community during your healing journey.

The FloriQuest Road Crew conducts seminars to educate and advocate for plant-medicine, holistic healing, and self-advocacy in the medical world.

We are a product of the past. Ours and generations behind us. We honor our ancestors by becoming aware of what was broken…and what was not. Intergenerational trauma healing is about releasing the perceived responsibilities we hold, the lessons we learned, and the influences of our family constellations.

When we understand this, our emotions, reactions, and even our suffering begin to look different.

Becoming aware that you are not the emotion but the one witnessing itcreates space for awareness. That shift transforms reactivity into response—a change that reduces anxiety, quiets the nervous system, and increases our capacity for creative problem-solving.

This healing is freedom.

Introducing you to Intergenerational Trauma

Drawing from Internal Family Systems therapy, first described by Dr. Richard Schwartz, parts of us often live across different timelines, stuck in younger emotional states or unhealed experiences. When those parts are triggered, we react from the past rather than the present.

But what if our behaviors, quirks and personalities extended past our own conscious experiences? Intergenerational trauma work focuses on the lessons learned unknowingly. The healthy and unhealthy patterns reinforced through our lives that reflect the lives of our ancestors. Our present is determined by our past, all of our past, including the generations before us.

By becoming conscious of these timelines, we begin to integrate those parts. This mirrors what physics knows about time: it isn’t linear. The brain is constantly predicting the future based on memories of the past; and sometimes the unconscious, ancestral past. When we change how we interpret those memories, we reshape our perception of the present and, in a real sense, influence what comes next.

What we see isn’t the world itself but a filtered projection designed for survival; patterns that may have been passed through generations. Bessel van der Kolk’s work, described in his book “The Body Keeps The Score”, identified the relationship between mirror neurons, caregivers, and developed stress responses in humans. In the past, these behaviors may have saved you, or your ancestors, but the behaviors have no place today and are often problematic: showing up as perfectionism, feelings of abandonment, isolation, shame, guilt, etc.

Introductory Evaluation and Preparation

Our initial service includes a screening for contraindications and introduces our patients to plant-medicine.

Preparation is the second part of our initial services in which we discuss how to adequately and appropriately prepare for this type of work. Patients are educated about breath work, energy work, meditation, journaling, and other coping skills that they will be required to utilize throughout our therapy sessions.

Therapy Sessions

Plant-medicine assisted therapy sessions. Each session lasts approximately 2 hours. These sessions involve experiential and grounding techniques such as guided meditation, breath work, bodywork, etc. In order to achieve greater benefits of therapy, we inform our patients about how to use minimally effective doses of plant-based medicine to achieve the maximum benefit from each therapeutic interaction.

Integration Sessions

Integration sessions do not involve the use of plant-based medicine.  During these sessions, clinicians help patients apply the insights gathered during plant-medicine assisted session to daily life.  Clinicians help clients make sense of their experience, support clients through positive change and growth, and offer ongoing guidance.

  • Two clinician sessions (male/female) are available.
